DAVID COOK

AVIATOR

THE BRITISH HANG GLIDING

CHAMPIONSHIP

The only surviving photos of David Cook flying his VJ 23 hang glider

at one of the early meetings at Mere (around 1976).

David talking to a competition marshall just before take-off in the Distance Event.

On his left, is his hang gliding mate, Chris Tansley.

Preparing to take off. Helping support the 'fuselage' structure is Chris Tansley (to David's left) and Steve Emmerson (behind David). Two other people help steady the wingtips.

Up, up and away - David is propelled off the ridge by his helpers.

On one take-off, Harry Potter was pushing from the tail and in a brave effort to launch David clear of the ridge, he flung himself over the edge and ended up rolling down the hill for quite a distance.
